It's begining with a girl who join a birthday party and she slowly see lot of weird stuffs and persons happened around her. Then slowly I want to let audience know if you're witnesses or celebrate birthday, those secret "friends" or "people" who comes to you.

Therefore, I decided to put "A nightmare on elm street song" which brings the meaning that they're coming towards you.

The lyric goes like this,

One, two, freddy's coming for you.

Three, four, better lock your door.

Five, six, pick up crucifix.

Seven and eight, better stay up late.

Nine, ten, never sleep again..

while this song is playing, children scenes will be played.

Everything happened around her make her frighten and ran off. However, she accidentally went to another horror place where there are another bunch of special guests.

After this, another short story with a new girl is added in. This story started with her mother holding a birthday cake and celebrate her birthday.

Unfortunately when she blew off the candles, immediately lights around her off, things around her changes, and she was located in another place.

Problems faced in mashup

At the begining when I planning my mashup, I chose around 10 movies for my mashup which are
paranormal activity 3, insidious, silent hill, poltergiest, one missed call, sinister, a nightmare on elm street, the sixth sense, the woman in black and house at the end of the street.

I watched some of the mashup videos which they threw in lot of scenes from different places, different episodes from same series and etc. Therefore I thought what I have to do is just to throw in horror and birthday scenes.

One of the mashup video I watched is mister rogers remixed.

However, when I work more on this assignment I found out things aren't that easy like what I thought.

I have to actually fix 1 or 2 characters as the main character just like what movie, drama or film did. 

So slowly I have a question in my mind which Im wondering do I have to make one main character or I just have to make a random horor mashup video. Just simply combine scenes which I think is scary.

Then after trying out and watching other videos for some time, I finally decided to fix 1 or 2 main characters which they will appear more throughout the mashup.

Movie and sound that I would use

At the begining, I planned to use around 10 movies in my mashup. 

They are paranormal activity 3, sinister, poltergiest, one missed call, the sixth sense and woman in black.

However, when I work on it, 

I lessen it down to 4 movies and the most I use will be last summer and silent hill which they are the main character / main story in my mashup.

In terms of sound effects, I would also use some audio and background sound effectsfrom youtube video and also music or song from movies. 

For example I would use one of the song from a nightmare on elm street which I got from youtube video.

Then I would use a small part in "creepy girl talking" video in my mashup which is the middle part when she singing herself. 

I think it's quite scary if I add on echo and this is absolutely match with my video.

Storyline Concept

Usual or common birthday party that we know is about having fun, enjoy, happy and etc. 

We will have games, colorful outfits, colorful decorations in the party which represent happiness.

Just like this above video shown, you see colorful outfit on children's, colorful decoration and colorful birthday cake. 

Birthday is something happy and fun to enjoy or celebrate. This is what we usually think of. 

It's a root in our mind.

Therefore, I would like to twist a little bit which make birthday party or birthday celebration became creepy and horror. 

Whenever it's your birthday or when you celebrated birthday, there will be some "special guest" come for you. 

The main reason I came out with this idea is because I wanna turn something happy into something creepy which I think it's gonna be interesting.

Insidious Movie Trailer Official (HD)

I tried to make my video mashup looks like horror films trailer.

Therefore, I watched some trailers and took two of it as my references, which are favourite movies of mine, Insidious and The Conjuring. Besides, I went through part of the mashup videos which were won prizes in webby awards too.

However, I finally focus more on these two movies trailer and studied how they combined different scenes and audios together, so that I could create a video with creepy atmosphere as they did. 

Something I found out about them are between different scene, they usually used "dip to black" as the transition. At the same time, there will be some horror sound effect at the begining of each transition.

I took the sound effect form the youtube video below.

Other than transition, they did add on descriptions/words in the middle of the trailer with normal or simple typeface. At first I was wondering and worry if I need to make special effects and use fancy typeface but after some researches, the answer is "no". I don't have to.

Among all the horror trailers, I picked two of the latest horror movie's trailer, Last summer and insidious 2 to study again.

As I said, typeface they used for their descriptions are simple. 

Without any special effects. 

To sum it up, after went through numbers of trailers, I'll use their way of transitions and typeface in my mashup video too.

I've gone through musics, sound effects (evil laugh), birthday song, background sound and etc in youtube and websites. Then, I grabbed some of the music I think maybe useful for me.
If possible, I would like to do something like music remix. I will add in my own background music and combine with some of sound effects and create another horror feel.

Besides, I tried to search for creepy birthday songs that I can put into my mashup.
 However, I didn't get any common birthday song in internet which brings creepiness feeling.
Therefore, Thenesh reminded me that I can change their voices or tone in Adobe Audition which helps me alot.

Competition Posters

So before we pick any competition, we are asked to come out with 3 posters and each of them represent one of the competition that we are interested to join. 

So I'll briefly explain each of the poster in this blog post.

It's a competition name Webby Awards.

Basically this is my favourite category among all the competition which is "video mashup".

I've include my video/focus portfolio into this blog. The reason I want to join this competition is to strengthen my focus portfolio. 

I wish to show more editing, planning, storyboard skills in this video.

The title of my mashup video will be HAPPY BIRTHDAY. 

It's to create a brithday song with combintions of horror movies footages and audios. 

To turn a "happy birthday" become "creepy birthday". 

This is another category that I wish to join in the same competition which is Webby Awards. 

Category that I picked is "Best use of photography" and I decided to create a emotional website which contains lots of photograph which represent different people's stories.

The message behind this website is "don't worry, you're not alone."

This is the last competition that I picked which is "The A'Design Award" and category is "Movie and Animation Design Award".

My idea is to create a video commercial to show the latest brand of coffee pack.
